Question of the quarter-- Do any residents rely, use, like or have any need for the INTERNAL (not on main arterial streets) neighborhood signs?

What can be done about a back yard neighbor who has his EIGHT MACAW squawking birds out on his patio every evening for 2 to 4 hours a night all summer long??????? The covenants say 4 animals (IE it does NOT say MAMMALS) & no more than 2 of any species. Oh, did I mention there are EIGHT of these squawking animals 20 feet off my lot line? Is this fair? Is this equitable? Is this considerate? Can dogs be out barking like this every evening? What can I do? I can hear them in my house with the windows closed.

The newly revised neighborhood signs looks wonderful. Thank you Board of Directors and Baum Property Services!

While I have personally been inconvenienced by an animal (it was a raccoon under my deck after having given birth), and incurred the expense of removing the critter, we must also remember these animals are in their natural habitat as we are and they have as much right to be there as we do. Having said that, anybody who truly dislikes having to deal with these critters on occasion should consider buying a condo on some very high floor in Chicago, therefore not having to deal with them (unless you consider roaches a wild animal).

Dear Board Members and Oakhurst Residents:
Many residents in the Oakhurst community have been experiencing insurmountable difficulties with invasive wildlife inhabiting their residential property. Skunks, possum, raccoons and nesting hornets are especially problematic creating potentially harmful physical hazards to adults, children and family pets as well as damage to homes, gardens and yards … places where it is expected that a measure of safety and security ought to exist. It should be one of the joys of living in an established community for residents to be outdoors in their own front or back yards without intrusions from various forms of fearful wildlife that have become entrenched on residential premises. No Oakhurst resident bought a home in this community to live in the wild woods or uninhabited prairie and encountering dangerous wildlife is therefore not an expected problem. Undoubtedly, residents have never in any manner encouraged dangerous wildlife to inhabit the yards of the community and when such problems arise the homeowners have neither the self-reliant expertise nor the equipment to handle the wild creatures.

Unchecked wildlife can easily become a community-wide problem as wildlife proliferation occurs. In order to encourage homeowners to prevent such an occurrence and to protect themselves, their families, their neighbors and general neighborhood property, the following proposal is suggested for the Board’s consideration.

It is proposed that a questionnaire be sent out to all Oakhurst residents to determine the number of wildlife incidents that occur in the community. If there are a significant number of incidents, then it is proposed that a wildlife removal fund be established in order for Oakhurst residents to have access to a quick and professional solution to eliminate their wildlife dangers without incurring significant personal expense. The questionnaire could be published in the Oakhurst Gazette and posted on the computer website. If a fund is created, the Board could establish guidelines for its use.

It is hoped that the community wildlife problems will garner as much concern from the Board and Oakhurst residents, as have the basketball hoop rules and entryway flowers in regard to property values.

Thank you for your attention to this proposal.
Sincerely, Mary Stehman

Please Note: Residents will be speaking on this topic during the open forum at 7:00 PM on January 23,2007 at the Oaks Recreational Club.
